Write for us
We welcome clear, original pitches about resourceful travel across the western United States. A strong proposal gives readers a useful way to plan, choose, notice or adapt, without relying on claims that cannot be checked or a story presented as first-hand when it is not.
What makes a good pitch
Send a concise description of the central idea, who it helps and what the reader will take away. Include the proposed angle, why it suits Western Travel Journal and any relevant experience or sources you would draw on. We are especially interested in evergreen subjects with a distinct point of view and advice a careful general reader can use.
A note on originality
Pitches should be your own work and should distinguish verified information from opinion. Do not include confidential information, invented details or material copied from elsewhere. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include your working title and a short outline in your message. Please do not send a complete article unless requested.
Travel well by noticing more and carrying less
A good trip need not be expensive or tightly scheduled. We value sound preparation, adaptable plans and attention to the places a journey passes through.
